Make a Roblox RPG: quests, combat, levels and a dungeon

The RPG is Roblox's most ambitious genre: a world, quests, monsters, levels, an inventory, and players who spend hours in it. It is also where a clear plan matters most, because everything depends on everything. Here are the systems of an RPG that holds, and the prompt to give Builblox to build it inside your Roblox Studio, step by step.

    What holds an RPG together

An RPG holds through its progression loop: killing monsters gives experience, experience gives levels, levels open zones where monsters are stronger and loot is better. Quests give that loop a direction: go there, bring this back, beat that one. And equipment makes progress visible on the character. If one of the three is missing, the player no longer knows why they keep going.

Start with one zone, five quests and a boss. A small finished RPG beats an empty continent, and you grow it later in the same chat.

    The systems players expect

An RPG needs a multi-step plan, and each of these parts often takes one step.

    • Combat: melee or ranged weapon, damage, health, dodge or block.
    • Monsters with behaviour: patrol, aggro on sight, return to their zone.
    • Levels and experience, with rising stats.
    • NPCs that give quests, a quest log, rewards.
    • An inventory and equipment: weapons, armour, potions, with rarities.
    • A dungeon or boss, zones by level, and DataStore saves of everything.

The full prompt to give Builblox

List the zones with their levels and the quests in order: that is what lets the AI split the plan cleanly. Copy this prompt and change the world.

Build an adventure RPG in a medieval kingdom.

Core loop: the player accepts quests in the village, fights monsters in the surrounding zones for experience and loot, levels up, gears up, and faces the dungeon boss.

    Systems:
    - A village with 4 NPCs: a chief who gives quests, a blacksmith selling weapons and armour, an alchemist selling potions, a guard who opens the dungeon at level 10
    - Melee combat with a sword (click to attack, 3-hit combo, dodge on a key) and a ranged bow
    - 3 zones: the forest (levels 1 to 5), the swamp (5 to 10), the ruins (10 to 15), with monsters that patrol, attack on sight and return to their zone
    - 8 quests in order: kill wolves, bring back herbs, deliver a letter, find an item in the swamp, defeat a mini-boss, and three more up to the dungeon
    - Levels 1 to 20 with experience, health and damage rising, and an on-screen quest log
    - A 20-slot inventory with 3 equipment rarities and healing potions
    - A dungeon with 3 rooms and a 3-phase dragon boss

Progression: level, experience, inventory, equipment and completed quests saved with DataStore.

Monetisation: gamepass for an extra inventory slot and a cosmetic mount, developer products for potions and a chest key.

    Iterating in the chat

An RPG builds over several plan steps, often seven to nine, and you can test after each one. After the forest, play to level 5 and ask: "wolves have too much health, take them from 60 to 40", "add a quest: find the blacksmith's cat", "the swamp is too dark, add torches along the path". Builblox reads the existing NPCs, zones and scripts and adds without redoing. A failed step is undone with Ctrl+Z. To grow, ask for a fourth zone in the same chat.

    Monetising your RPG

An RPG monetises through comfort and looks: inventory slots, cosmetic mounts and outfits, a reasonable double experience, chest keys, potions. Do not sell a weapon stronger than what the dungeon gives: progression is the game. Builblox writes the shop and its server check; gamepasses and products are created in the Roblox Creator Dashboard and you paste their ids.

    Frequently asked questions

Does a full RPG fit in one plan?

A one-zone, one-boss RPG, yes, in seven to nine steps. For more, build the base then ask for each extra zone or system in the same chat: Builblox builds on what exists.

    Do the monsters actually move?

Yes, through server scripts that make them patrol, chase and attack, with health and damage. Their bodies are assembled from parts; you can replace them with your models or Creator Store ones.
