Make a Roblox survival game, from the first night to a fortified base

Survival is the genre where players set their own goals: last one more night, finish the wall, tame the forest. It mixes gathering, crafting, building and danger. Here are the systems that make survival tense but fair, and the prompt to give Builblox to build it inside your Roblox Studio.

What holds a survival game together

A good survival game has two clocks: hunger going down and night coming. Between them the player chooses — gather, build, explore — and every choice costs time. Danger must be announced: a visibly falling night, enemies you hear coming. And the reward must last: a base that stays from one session to the next, a workbench that unlocks recipes.

With several players, survival turns co-op or competitive; say so in the prompt, because it changes the map, player damage and chests.

    The systems players expect

A complete survival game fits in five to nine plan steps. Here is what they must cover.

    • Health, hunger and thirst bars that drop with time and effort.
    • Resources to gather: wood, stone, berries, with tools that wear out.
    • Crafting: workbench, recipes, a slot inventory.
    • Base building: walls, doors, campfire, chest.
    • A day-night cycle and enemy waves at night.
    • DataStore saves of inventory, base and nights survived.

The full prompt to give Builblox

State the player count, the cycle length and the strength of the first wave: those are the three settings that decide whether your survival game is fair. Copy this prompt and change the setting.

Build a co-op survival game on an island.

Core loop: 1 to 6 players gather by day, build a base before nightfall, and survive waves of creatures that grow stronger night after night.

    Systems:
    - Health, hunger and thirst bars; hunger and thirst drop over time, faster when sprinting
    - Trees, rocks and bushes to gather with an axe, a pickaxe or bare hands; tools wear out and are repaired at the workbench
    - A 20-slot inventory with drag and drop, and a workbench with 12 recipes: tools, torch, walls, door, bed, chest, spear, bow
    - Grid-snapped building pieces with a preview before placing
    - A 10-minute day-night cycle; each night spawns a wave of creatures that attack walls then players, larger every night
    - A campfire that cooks food and keeps creatures away within a radius
    - A nights-survived counter shown to everyone

Progression: inventory, base and nights survived saved with DataStore; a leaderboard of best night streaks.

Monetisation: gamepass for a 30-slot bag and tool skins, developer product for a starter kit.

    Iterating in the chat

Survival is tuned through its speeds: hunger dropping too fast, nights too short, the first wave too strong. Play two cycles, then ask in the chat: "hunger should last 8 minutes without eating", "the first night sends only 3 creatures", "add a trap recipe to the workbench". Builblox finds the values in the scripts it wrote and changes only those. A failed step is undone with Ctrl+Z.

    Monetising your survival game

Survival monetises through comfort, not through survival itself: a bigger bag, tool and wall skins, a pet that carries resources, a starter kit after a death. Avoid selling invulnerability or unbreakable walls, which remove the tension players come for. Builblox writes the shop and its server check; you create the gamepasses and products in the Roblox Creator Dashboard and paste their ids.

    Frequently asked questions

Does Builblox build the island or only the systems?

Both: the ground, spawn, trees and rocks to gather arrive as parts and models in your Workspace, with the scripts that run them alongside. You can then edit the map by hand in Studio.

How many plan steps for a full survival game?

Usually five to nine: the map, survival bars, gathering and crafting, building, the day-night cycle and waves, then saves and shop. You can also ask for a smaller game and extend it later in the same chat.
