How to make a Roblox game, step by step
Making a Roblox game is free, happens on a computer, and takes anywhere from an afternoon to several months depending on the method. Here are the seven steps in order, what each needs, and where the Builblox AI saves you the most time.
1. A Roblox account and Roblox Studio
You need a Roblox account, then Roblox Studio, the official editor, free, on Windows or Mac. That is where every Roblox game is built and published. Open it once, create a place from an empty baseplate, and press Play to watch your avatar walk on it: you already have a game, an empty one.
2. An idea that fits in one sentence
Games that work fit in one sentence: "an obby where the floor melts behind you", "a pizzeria tycoon with rebirths". Pick a genre you play yourself, add a single idea that makes it different, and decide what the player does in the first thirty seconds. If you hesitate, Builblox's genre guides detail what each genre needs.
3. Building: by hand, or with the AI
By hand, you place parts in Studio, write scripts in Luau, and learn along the way the services (ServerScriptService, StarterGui, ReplicatedStorage), RemoteEvents and DataStore. Count on weeks for a first complete game, and it is an excellent school.
With Builblox, you write your sentence in the chat. The AI answers with a plan in steps, one to nine, which you read and adjust. Then the Builblox plugin, installed from the Creator Store and linked to your account, places each step in your open place: the Luau scripts, the parts, the GUI, the remotes. Everything arrives as ordinary Studio objects you can then edit by hand, which makes the AI a shortcut rather than a black box.
4. Test, and fix
Press Play and play your own game the way a stranger would: where do you get lost, what is unclear, what breaks. Watch Studio's Output window: every red error names the script and the line. With Builblox, you describe the problem in the same chat ("the door does not open after the third button") and the AI reads the place before fixing; a failed step is undone with one Ctrl+Z.
5. Publish from Studio
File, then Publish to Roblox: you give a name, a description, a genre, and your game exists on the platform. It is private by default; switch it to public in the game settings when it is ready. Publishing costs nothing. If your game saves data, turn on "Enable Studio Access to API Services" in the game settings to test DataStores from Studio.
6. A thumbnail that earns the click
On Roblox, the thumbnail decides almost everything: all else equal, it is what separates an ignored game from a tried one. Show the action, an emotion, little text. Builblox has a thumbnail studio that generates them from your game and a few words, in the formats Roblox expects.
7. The first players
A published game with no players stays invisible. Have friends try it, post a short clip on TikTok or YouTube, and watch what the games that work in your genre do: TrackBlox, inside Builblox, tracks their players and updates through the day. Then update your game often: on Roblox, a living game beats a finished one.
