Make a Roblox obby players want to retry

The obby is the first game most Roblox creators attempt, and one of the most played on the platform. It is easy to start and hard to get right: everything rests on the rhythm of the jumps and the fairness of the checkpoints. Here is how to describe one to Builblox so it builds it inside your Roblox Studio, traps and timer included.

    What makes a good obby

An obby is judged in three jumps. If they are readable — you see where to land, you understand what kills — the player keeps going. Difficulty must climb in stages, each one introducing a single new idea: a vanishing platform, a pushing conveyor, a turret. And a checkpoint every few challenges, or frustration wins.

The obbys that stay in the charts have a theme that tells something (a tower, a volcano, a dream) and an ending worth the effort: a winners' room, a title, a best-times leaderboard.

    The systems players expect

The plan Builblox proposes for an obby covers these elements. If one is missing, ask for it before starting the build.

    • Numbered checkpoints that set the respawn point.
    • Varied traps: kill parts, vanishing platforms, conveyors, timed lasers.
    • A timer and a best-times leaderboard.
    • A DataStore save of the last checkpoint reached.
    • A HUD showing the current stage, time and death count.
    • A finish room that rewards: effect, title, badge.

The full prompt to give Builblox

Start with about twenty stages: that is what a plan of a few steps builds cleanly, and you extend it later in the same chat. Change the theme, the stage count and the traps.

Build a 20-stage obby inside a volcanic tower.

Core loop: the player spawns at the foot of the tower, clears one challenge per stage, touches a checkpoint between stages and chases the best time to the top.

    Systems:
    - 20 stages of rising difficulty, one new idea every 5 stages: vanishing lava platforms, conveyors, timed lasers, pushing walls
    - A numbered checkpoint at every stage that sets the respawn point
    - A timer started at the first jump and stopped at the top, with a top-10 best-times leaderboard
    - A HUD: current stage out of 20, time, death count
    - A winners' room at the top with fireworks and a "Volcano survivor" title

Progression: last checkpoint, best time and deaths saved with DataStore.

Monetisation: gamepass for a trail effect, developer product to skip a stage.

    Iterating in the chat

After the build, play the obby yourself: that is where you feel the jumps that are too long or the lasers that are too fast. Come back to the chat and ask precisely: "lengthen the platform on stage 12", "slow down the lasers on stage 15", "add a checkpoint between stages 18 and 19". Builblox changes those objects and leaves the rest. For a whole step to redo, one Ctrl+Z in Studio undoes it.

For a taller tower, ask for more in batches: "add stages 21 to 40 on an ice theme". The AI reads the existing tower and builds on top.

    Monetising your obby

Obbys earn with products that respect the challenge: skip a stage, a trail effect, a title, cosmetics. Higher jump or speed must stay out of the ranked mode, or best times mean nothing. Builblox writes the shop and its server check; the gamepasses and products are created in the Roblox Creator Dashboard, and you fill in their ids.

    Frequently asked questions

Does Builblox actually place the platforms, or only the scripts?

Both. Each stage arrives as parts placed in your Workspace, with the scripts that animate them and the GUI. You can then move any platform by hand.

How many stages can I ask for at once?

About twenty build cleanly in one plan. For a 100-stage tower, go in batches and ask for the next one in the same chat: each batch builds on what already exists.
